Tipsters now have the option of giving us tips on-line. The process is completely secure and anonymous and is a very effective and efficient means of safely communicating with us in today's world. Our Web-Tip process is powered by the world's leading on-line tip solution provider, Anderson Software.
The very unique integrated Two-Way Dialog capabilities allow the tipster to come back and provide additional information to their tip at any time, but also provides a secure means for the coordinator to ask questions or provide reward information back to the tipster through the same secure and encrypted interface.

Send your tip to CRIMES (274637) and at the beginning of your text message type "TIP126" and then type your tip.

When you hit send you will receive a message back giving you your unique code number which may be alpha numeric. You must use this code for any additional information or to check on your tip. This unique code number is the only way we will be able to identify you to the tip you sent us via text messaging. So do not loose your code number.

Your code number will also be used in payment of any rewards that result in your tip helping to solve a case. Just like our Web-Tip your, text message to our program is completely secure and you will remain anonymous.

When a tip is received

When crime stoppers receives a tip, they log it with the date and time, and a brief summary of the Tipster's information. They furnish the tipster's with a secret code number that is used in subsequent transactions to identify the Tipster. Tipsters may remain completely anonymous, with no pressure to reveal their identity, and still collect their rewards.

All tipsters need to remember that they may not be the only one with information about a crime or wanted felon.
Therefore, it is important that if you have information on any unsolved felony case or a wanted person, do not wait to call this information into crime stoppers.

If a Tipster's information results in the arrest and charges filed of an offender or the apprehension of a fugitive, the Tipster will received instructions on when to check on their case. When the Tipster does check back at that time crime stoppers will give the Tipster information on how to receive his or her reward in cash and still preserve his or her anonymity.

Rewards are only paid out when your tip information actually helps to solve any unsolved felony crime, leading to an arrest and charges filed on the person or persons responsable. Rewards will not paid out when the information is already known to the investigating agency or investigator.

How are the rewards paid?

Prominent area citizens have volunteered their time and have formed a board of directors to oversee Abilene Crime Stoppers Programs. This board approves the rewards to be paid, based on information presented by the police coordinator. The board does not know who called in the information. It is presented the facts about the case or fugitive in question and the code number of the caller is the only identifier used.

Once the board approves a reward and the Tipster has checked back to check on their case, the police coordinator will give the Tipster his or her instructions on how to pick up the reward. They give the Tipster special code information and he or she is directed to a local bank. The Tipster uses this code information by giving it to a teller at the drive-through at the bank. The teller will verify the code information, and return to the Tipster an envelope with the Tipster's cash reward money. The Tipsters then drives off with no one knowing who he or she was.

Crime Stoppers is definitely here to stay. It has been accepted by police as a valid and effective investigative tool and the public, through its overwhelming response, appears to have accepted it as a more palatable alternative to traditional methods of giving information.
